Kisoro has continuously become a very popular town because of the strategic location in the far southwest of Uganda bordering the DRC and Rwanda and close to the extinct Virunga Volcanoes where also the endangered mountain gorillas dwell. This has made it an interesting tourism destination for gorilla trekking and golden monkey tracking in Mgahinga national park, hiking on the Mufumbiro ranges/Virunga volcanoes and encountering the Batwa pygmies who live near the park. Kisoro is gifted with rich soils and you will find flourishing gardens of Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, sorghum and millet and vegetation all around the area.
With the current tourism activities and other project works plus considering that it is a hub from Bwindi Impenetrable national park to Rwanda, Kisoro is growing significantly. It has numerous hotels and lodges of class, an airport under construction and roads have been improved. Other places of attraction near Kisoro include Lake Mutanda, Bwindi Impenetrable national park and Lake Bunyonyi.
